For Pippi's third foal, I was expecting the 'standard' flaxen
sabino chestnut 2 weeks early, but this time it was a FILLY!
Duckie weighed 25 pounds when she was born. I was able
to carry her around for weeks and she HATED it. She was
so tiny, she had to wear dog clothes. Hated those too (well,
except maybe for the shiny waterproof sheet in the above photo.....she thought it was kind
of cool;) Hugs, kisses.....hated 'em. I named her "Pixie." I'm sure she hated that too, but that
name didn't last long....
Duckie was indeed a sabino, with very unique markings on her head. On day 4, my farrier
and friend, Kim Hanson, came to trim and meet the new addition. Immediately upon seeing
the filly, Kim exclaimed, "SHE HAS A DUCK ON HER HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Everyone took a
closer look and decided it was indeed a duck......or Homer Simpson. "Duckie" stuck. She
probably hates that too but at least she responds, MOST of the time.
Duckie has ended up a very laid back, easy to manage filly. She loads in the trailer better
than anyone else except Boo Boo. She's conquered the clippers, spray bottles, garage doors
and tarps.
Duckie is slated to make her show ring debut in 2012.
