TORCHLIGHT
"Torchy"
Thoroughbred gelding  L33503
PHR  P0001361
USEF  96634
Sire:
Torchy Tune
Dam: Comet Chico
Pedigree Highlights: Nasrullah, Tudor Minstrel,
Mahmoud, Seductor, Jet Pilot
Foaled: February 27, 1982, in Ocala, Florida
Died: March 16, 2007, 10:45 PM
Color: bay, small star and left hind pastern
Height: 15.3 hands

Torchy was my very best friend and had been since
1987. My parents finally relented in the Fall of 1986
and said I could get a horse. The search was on! After
many disappointing trips to look at horses, I received
three phone calls about five year old Thoroughbred
geldings...one from a dealer, one from a former
owner, and one from a friend of a friend. All three
calls ended up being about the same horse...I went to the dealer's farm to look. He had
another gelding for me to try first. He was nothing special. I then got on THE horse. He
bucked all the way down the long side of the arena as soon as I had gotten my feet in the
stirrups. Not the best first impression, but he settled down and I rode him for awhile. My
trainer, Evy, who was watching, was amazed that I was actually posting on the correct
diagonal, as this had always been a problem for me. Evy decided to get on and jump him and
she loved him. Torchy officially became mine on January 14, 1987.
Torchy and I showed on the Minnesota Hunter-Jumper Association circuit for 8 years,
competeing in Children's Working Hunter, Long Stirrup Working Hunter, Novice Adult
Working Hunter and Adult Amateur Working Hunter. In 1995, Torchy earned a Silver Stirrup
High Point Award from the Performance Horse Registry for his consistency in the Adult
Amateur Working Hunter division.
When Ponies Galore! began in 1997, Torchy went to semi-retirement. He was the official
babysitter for
Galore's First Edition when he was weaned in 1999 and did the same each
year when the foals were weaned. Torchy played with them, scratched them, licked them,
disciplined them often (most REALLY needed it!), and herded them like cattle, a "trick" he
learned years ago from his mentor,
Mark Cody, a 14.2 Quarter Horse.
I continued to ride him as often as I could. He helped me keep my sanity, which is often
jeopardized dealing with all of my young and green ponies. He would also allow himself to be
used for occasional beginner jumping lessons and was much appreciated by his green riders.
Torchy had quite a sense of humor, or so he thought! He enjoyed an occasional game of
"Keep Away" when it was time to come in and work and pretended that he's going to buck
me off on cool, windy days. He was also the only horse I have ever seen "tip-toe!" His favorite
game, though, was making the stallions talk, and then he would squeal, strike at them, and
relish the looks of shock on their faces!
I noticed Torchy beginning to have trouble breathing on March 8. The vet came out on
March 9 and threated him for pneumonia. He was rechecked on March 15 and had made no
marked improvement, though he continued to eat well and essentially be his normal self. The
decision was made to take him down to the University of Minnesota were they could better
assess what was going on.
As soon as we arrived, his lungs were x-rayed. The x-rays showed a dark area in his right
lung. I was given instructions to take him home and keep him as comfortable as possible and
warned that the end could come at any time. I unloaded him that night and put him in the
barn where he began having seizures. The vet was called and he left us at 10:45 PM on
March 16, 2007, leaving a permanent hole in my heart.

GALORE'S SWEET REVENGE
"Marcy"
Thoroughbred mare
Pedigree unknown
Foaled:
February 19, 1993
Died: May 15, 2003
Color: dark bay, small star
Height: 14.3 3/4 hands

Marcy was an extremely sweet, athletic mare with beautiful
Hunter movement and a big jump. Her temperament was
so exceptional that she had been used for beginner riding
lessons from the time she was four years old. Marcy
always did her job without question regardless of what is
happening on her back.
Marcy was on a breeding lease with Tamara Howard of
Tennessee. On April 23, 2003, Marcy went into premature
labor and delivered a
Pecan Creek's Rock N Roll (Pecan
Creek's Overture x CC Dawn) colt who sadly was just born
too soon and died 10 minutes later. Marcy suffered severe complications after delivery
making her unable to get up or down, let alone stand. Tamara and her husband Calvin put
Marcy in a body sling where she remained for over a week. Throughout the whole ordeal,
Marcy was calm and cooperative, and never lost her will to live. She was eventually able to
take some wobbly steps on her own and we were all hopeful. Unfortunately after 21 days she
was still unable to get up without the help of the tractor and the difficult decision was made.
Her body gave out, but her heart never did.
I want to thank Tamara and Calvin for all their efforts with Marcy. I know I couldn't have done
anymore myself. I am simply heartbroken, but know Marcy is now in a place where she can
run and play and be a horse again.
I will miss you forever my sweet girl...

LADY JUNE
"Jewel"
Half Welsh & Welara mare
Sire:
Flying Colors Yankee Clipper, Section C Welsh
Dam: Princess Gayla, Arabian
Pedigree Highlights: Parc Dafydd, Menai Ceredig,
Farnley Lustre, Coed Coch Berwynfa, Cusop Sheriff,
Raffles, Raseyn, Rasraff, Abu Zeyd, Raswan, Skowronek
Foaled: June 11, 1990
Died: February 4, 2011, 9:20 AM
Color: bay, star and left hind sock
Height: 13.1 3/4 hands
Foal Theme: Jewel's foals have "sea" in their registered
names.

Jewel was an absolutely gorgeous mare with fabulous
conformation - huge eyes, a shapely neck, deep and
substantial body and good bone. She is a "10" mover,
with wonderful ground covering gaits. She is a well
broke mare that goes English and Western. Jewel is also great on the trails and has perfect
form over fences.

Jewel was a Half Welsh and Welara representative at the 2002 Minnesota Horse Expo,
showing her versatility by being shown Hunt Seat and Western. She was also a demonstration
horse for a Richard Shrake lecture. Mr. Shrake thought she was a wonderful pony and a
great broodmare candidate.

Jewel delivered her first foal, Grand Champion
Galore's Sea of Roses, a filly by Supreme
Champion
Galore's Splash of Flash, on June 10, 2001. Jewel's second foal arrived on June
25, 2003.
Galore's Sweet SeaCret, by Grand Champion Galore's First Edition, is a larger
version of her sister Rosie and sweet and smart as can be! Jewel foaled an absolutely
exquisite bay filly,
Galore's PhantaSea, by Phantom Bronze Knight on May 21, 2005.
Fancy will be a top notch all-around show pony and can be seen on our sales page. Jewel
delivered filly #4 on May 14, 2006.
Galore's Sea Breeze, a full sister to Fancy, is a gorgeous
chestnut who is every bit as spectacular as her three sisters. Breeze, Rosie and Secret have
been retained.

Jewel's show career was brief, being shown once in 2001. She was Reserve Grand Champion
Half Welsh to our
Galore's First Edition.

Jewel was retired from the breeding program due to Cushing's Disease and Laminitis. She
fought both valiantly and let me do whatever I needed to do to keep her comfortable, as she
knew I was helping her. On February 3, 2011, she told me she was done fighting. The next
morning, attended by her vet, Jon Engstrom, and her farrier, Kim Hanson, she quietly left us.
